Just before reaching the airport gates, look for a small sign on the left leading down a rustic, unpaved dirt path that winds through a dense bamboo forest. You can park your motorbike or car in the flat, sandy clearing right behind the tree line for a small parking fee of about 10,000 VND to 20,000 VND. From the parking area, it is a short, flat, and highly scenic 1-minute walk under the shade of coastal trees directly onto the sand.
Often named one of the most unique and beautiful beaches in Vietnam, Dam Trau Beach is a crescent of golden sand famously situated directly beneath the flight path of landing airplanes. Visitors can experience the thrill of turboprop planes roaring incredibly low over the shoreline as they descend onto the adjacent runway, making it a bucket-list destination for photography. There are no municipal lifeguards or safety buoy lines, so swimmers should remain self-aware, though the bay is generally well-sheltered from harsh currents.
