Standard vehicles must park at a flat, unpaved staging area near the edge of the desert dunes. Because the beach is separated from the road by a massive expanse of soft, rolling sand dunes, driving regular cars across is impossible. To reach the shoreline, visitors can either embark on a somewhat challenging 30-to-40-minute walk through the deep, hot sand or hire a local transport service, such as a modified open-air tractor or a 4x4 terrain vehicle. These desert shuttles take you directly across the sandy expanses, arriving flatly onto the coastal cove without requiring any steep stone stairs or cliff climbing.
Mui Dinh Beach (often referred to as Bai Trang) is a strikingly wild, desert-like coastal oasis tucked beneath the towering rocky headland of Cape Dinh. The beach features a beautiful crescent of deep golden sand bordered by a surreal landscape of dramatic, pale granite boulder piles and massive, sweeping sand dunes. The ocean here is incredibly clear, showing off a vibrant, pale turquoise color. Because the bay is heavily sheltered on one side by the massive rocky cape, the water along the shoreline is exceptionally calm, shallow, and pristine. This creates a wonderfully secluded, rugged paradise where small, traditional coracle basket boats rest on the sand under a scorching sun, offering an atmosphere that feels entirely distinct from any other coast in Vietnam.
