The main roads heading north are completely smooth and asphalted, but the final few kilometers branching off to the fishing village turn into unpaved, packed-dirt and sand roads. These can get a bit bumpy or dusty depending on weather conditions. Motorbikes and cars can park in wide, flat, unpaved sand lots near the water's edge or at the entrance to the village footbridges. Access onto the sand is a completely flat, short walk of just a few meters, requiring no steep steps or cliff pathways.
Rach Vem is a highly authentic, traditional fishing village and beach area deeply tied to the rhythms of local seafaring life. The shoreline is famously characterized by long, narrow, rustic wooden footbridges that extend hundreds of meters out into the shallow bay, connecting the land to floating stilt houses and seafood restaurants. The sea here is exceptionally calm, shallow, and flat, with a muddy-sandy bottom rich in marine life-including the large colonies of red starfish found along this northern coast.
